Issues

Our 2020 report found that the electric service Ohioans are required to buy from regulated utilities ranks in the bottom five nationally and needs major improvement. The following policies would bring relief to long-embattled customers and improve the quality of service:

1

End subsidies for uneconomic, aging power plants that the competitive market is saying should be closed

2

Expand energy efficiency programs, demand response, and grid-enhancing technologies to lower peak demand and minimize grid costs

3

Invest in low-priced clean power and distributed generation to lower power generation costs

4

Give customers control over their monthly bills by expanding creative power-pricing options to reward consumers who shift usage to off-peak hours

5

Ensure all Ohioans share in these benefits equitably — no matter their demographic or region
